Introduction

The latency testing figures here were obtained through a comparative real time latency testing configuration that approximates real-world use cases and situations.

Analytical Methodology

The real time recording was obtained by setting up a Timer running on Mozilla Firefox that showed time elapsed down to the millisecond (“Control Timer”), compared to a live output of the camera’s feed (“Output Timer”). Both Timers were displayed side by side and recorded with a high speed camera. The difference between the Control Timer and the Output Timer is the overall latency of the Camera’s outputs, measure in milliseconds.

First, the camera was allowed to run for an hour to simulate real world conditions as setup was completed. Then each test was recorded for approximately 11 minutes and 30 seconds. The videos were then reviewed, and a measurement was taken at each one minute mark of the Control Timer (1:00, 2:00, 3:00 … 11:00) for a total of 10 measurements. The Latency at each moment was taken and then averaged into the final figures that appear in the final Test Results.

Setup

Test Module 1 (SDI, HDMI, USB):

Components:

  • Main Camera: Angekis Saber AT, Model: ANG2-20FHD-AT

  • Main Display Screen: LG OLED TV AI ThinQ, 4K Television, Model: OLED55B9PCA

  • Output Display Screen: Keruishi, KS-MR1022-SDI [This model can accept SDI, HDMI and USB video feeds directly]

Setup (Figure 1.1):

The Main Display Screen was set up in the center of the camera’s field of vision, displaying a Control Timer that included significant figures down to the millisecond.

The Output Display Screen was set up next to the Main Display Screen, also within the camera’s field of vision, displaying the Output Timer.

The Main Camera was set up on a tripod so it could view the full scene, and was hooked up to the Output Display Screen using the appropriate output method for each test.

A second camera, an iPhone 13 Pro, was set up on a tripod behind all of these components and used to record the scene at 4Kp60.

Test Module 2 (RTSP, NDI|HX)

Components:

  • Main Camera: Angekis Saber AT, Model: ANG2-20FHD-AT

  • Main Display Screen: LG OLED TV AI ThinQ, 4K Television, Model: OLED55B9PCA

Setup (Figure 1.2):

In this module of the test, both the Control Timer and the Output Timer were displayed on the same Main Display Screen.

The Control Timer ran on a Mozilla Firefox Browser, while the Output Timer ran through a VMix configuration for both RTSP and NDI|HX tests.

The Camera remained in the same position as it was in Test Module 1.
